Director, Prof. Peter Quartey has described as fruitful ISSER’s participation in CSAE 2023, a three-day international conference held at Oxford University, United Kingdom, organised by the Centre for the Study of African Economies (CSAE).
The ISSER team, led by Prof. Quartey and including Dr. Richmond Atta-Ankomah, Research Fellow, and Ms. Vicentia Quartey, Communications and Publications Officer, joined over 300 researchers from around the globe that gathered for the three-day conference from March 19 – 21.

The Retail Finance Distribution (ReFinD) research initiative will open for applications for the second round of sub-grants in February 2023. Successful applicants will be awarded grants to undertake research and test innovations in retail finance/ agent banking for financial inclusion in low and middle-income countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, Southeast Asia, and South Asia.
Stellenbosch University (SU) bestowed an honorary doctorate on Prof Ernest Aryeetey at its December graduation. He received the degree Doctor of Commerce (DCom), honoris causa, on December 8, 2022 at an in-person graduation ceremony for the Faculty of Economics and Management Sciences.

The Data Repository and Advocacy for Policy (DARAP) project arranged a science communication forum to equip researchers with practical skills to effectively communicate science to influence policy. The training session was preceded by lively presentations highlighting findings from research work conducted by teams of DARAP researchers.

DAAD annual collaboration workshop 2022 participants
The 2022 edition of the annual collaboration workshop of the Ghanaian-German Centre for Development Studies (DAAD) has been held. The event gathered DAAD programme collaborators, students and alumni, and some University of Ghana (UG) officials, including Prof. Eric. Osei-Assibey, Dean of International Programmes, who delivered the keynote address.

Masters students of ISSER took a study tour to the Ekumfi District in the Central Region of Ghana to engage with development issues there. The tour – arranged each year in the final semester of the Masters in Development Studies training – is aimed at creating space for the students to garner new insights, and make meaningful connections between theory and practice while helping them unwind and strengthen friendships through fun activities.
