The group at the nursery of the Ekumfi Fruits and Juices Factory
Masters students of ISSER took a study tour to the Ekumfi District in the Central Region of Ghana to engage with development issues there. The tour – arranged each year in the final semester of the Masters in Development Studies training – is aimed at creating space for the students to garner new insights, and make meaningful connections between theory and practice while helping them unwind and strengthen friendships through fun activities.
This year’s study trip saw the 2021/2022 class of students visit the Ekumfi Fruits and Juices Factory and the Ekumfi District Assembly, among other development projects.
Sharing his experience, Modestus Nibenang, class representative said: “The study tour was an excellent experience for me; there was a lot to learn. It offered me the opportunity to draw connections between what I am learning in class and the practice on the ground.”
The study tour is a crucial component of the MA programme designed to give students the opportunity to apply the skills they have developed in the course of the academic year in research methods, problem identification, and solution-oriented analyses.
The visits were led by Dr. Kofi Asante (Masters Programme Coordinator), Dr. Cynthia Addoquaye Tagoe, and Dr. Dzifa Torvikey. The participation of the three research fellows (and lecturers) helped in enriching learning and students’ overall experience – a defining objective of training programmes and activities at ISSER.
The study tour took place between November 1 to 3, 2022.
