Director, Prof. Peter Quartey has described as fruitful ISSER’s participation in CSAE 2023, a three-day international conference held at Oxford University, United Kingdom, organised by the Centre for the Study of African Economies (CSAE).

The ISSER team, led by Prof. Quartey and including Dr. Richmond Atta-Ankomah, Research Fellow, and Ms. Vicentia Quartey, Communications and Publications Officer, joined over 300 researchers from around the globe that gathered for the three-day conference from March 19 – 21.

In addition to hosting an exhibition promoting the Institute’s latest research initiative, Retail Finance Distribution (ReFinD), and networking, the members of the ISSER team participated in conference sessions, with Dr. Atta-Ankomah presenting a paper at a well-attended parallel session. The paper, titled Gender and labour market transitions in a structurally changing economy: Empirical evidence from Ghana, generated interesting discussions and drew valuable feedback from participants.

Speaking on the outcome of ISSER’s engagements at the conference, Prof. Quartey said: “As with all our strategic engagement activities, our participation in CSAE2023 was fruitful in that it contributed significantly to extending and deepening ISSER’s research footprints and overall visibility -- which has clear advantages for individual researchers and the Institute a whole.”

“We are committed to continuing on this path, actively seeking and fostering connections and collaborations with research-led and forward-looking institutions and individuals.”

As co-organizer and host of the important pre-conference event, CSAE workshop 2022, which was held in November 2022 at the ISSER conference centre, the team's participation in the conference, dubbed #CSAE2023, was useful in deepening relations with CSAE colleagues and making connections with new research communities and individuals.
