With almost 750,000 cases of COVID 19 and millions of people in quarantine around the world, this new pandemic has stopped the world in its tracks. People’s health is now centre stage everywhere, and it has become ever so clear that diseases do not stop at national borders. Now, more than ever, regional institutions’ effectiveness in ensuring health and safety should be considered a matter of priority. How these institutions act and react, may, in the long term, prove of significant importance on the way nations tackle future epidemics.

The Modern Energy Cooking Services (MECS) Ghana project organised a workshop bringing together diverse stakeholders for a net-mapping exercise aimed at garnering views and opinions on cooking energy services, specifically modern energy cooking services, in Ghanaian households. It was held on 29th April, 2021 at the ISSER conference centre, under Covid-19-safe conditions.

ISSER Research Fellows, Dr Fred Dzanku and Dr Kofi Asante engaged farmers, policy makers, oil palm companies and media representatives in a dissemination workshop to share and discuss findings of the Agricultural Policy Research in Africa (APRA) project. It was held on 17th March, 2021 at the Takoradi Regional Library, in the Western Region.

The APRA project aims at analyzing the impacts and outcomes of pathways to agricultural commercialization on rural poverty, empowerment of women and girls and food and nutrition security in Ghana and six other Sub-Saharan Africa countries.

ACCRA, 20 January, 2021 – A new study by a team of Ghanaian economists in collaboration with the Brookings Institution has identified agro-processing and tourism as two of the sectors that could be relied on to potentially address Ghana’s youth unemployment challenge and enhance competitiveness and productivity of small and medium-sized firms.

The team comprised Prof Ernest Aryeetey, Africa Research Universities Alliance (ARUA); Dr Priscilla Twumasi Baffour and Dr Ebo Turkson, both of the Department of Economics, University of Ghana.

The Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) on Monday, 29th November, 2021 invited the media for a review of the 2022 budget statement and economic policy of the government.

The presentation on the 2022 budget statement and economic policy review was delivered, on behalf of the Economics Division of ISSER, by Director, Prof. Peter Quartey, alongside Research Fellow, Dr. Andrew Agyei-Holmes who shared some reflections on the real sectors, namely the agricultural, industrial and services sectors.
