POSITION SUMMARY

The Institute of Statistical Social and Economic Research (ISSER), is a semi-autonomous research institute within the College of Humanities, University of Ghana. ISSER currently serves as the social science research wing of the College of Humanities, University of Ghana and engages in a number of policy relevant research whose findings are intended to help policy makers on the best policy decisions to make for national development.

ISSER seeks to recruit an Administrative Assistant (AA) to manage the operations of a new research project dubbed Policy Prioritization through Value Chain Analysis (PPVC). This position is a full time one and in person at ISSER, University of Ghana. 

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the direct supervision of the Principal Investigators (PIs), the Administrative assistant will perform the following duties and undertake the following responsibilities in a professional manner: 

  • Provide professional and courteous interactions and coordinate with diverse stakeholders within selected value chain actors
  • Coordinate administrative and logistical details related to the day-to-day operations and the management and accuracy of the PIs’ calendars and appointments related to the PPVC project
  • Review, edit, write and re-write executive documentation, letters, memorandums, interoffice communications, confidential reports and other correspondence for approval by PIs.
  • Create and update Microsoft Office presentations necessary for ongoing activities and essential briefings.
  • Perform all travel coordination related to the PPVC project
  • Assist with the performance of various office management duties, which vary from complex and/or confidential to include personnel files, agendas, travel advance, expenses, calendar management, assistance with special event coordination.
  • Assist with and facilitate in the timely responses to requests from our partners in and outside of Ghana.
  • Coordinate information updates, and upload information as needed to SharePoint sites.
  • Prepare and/or maintain a desktop reference continuity document of duties and responsibilities
  • Support supplies and equipment orders and distribution for the Office

 

  • Support planning meetings and prepare meeting materials prior to scheduled events, including meeting agendas, name tents, roster updates, handouts, etc., support the execution of actual meetings
  • Assist with desktop research and synthesis of literature and grey materials related to the

PPVC

  • Undertake any other duties assigned by the PI

                                                                                                     QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post-graduate Degree in any Social Science field
  • One-year work experience within a Social Science research environment

 

DESIRED WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Familiarity with the public and private sector stakeholders within the agri-food system in Ghana 
  • Experience working in a team to implement programmes involving different stakeholders across Ghana. 
  • Experience engaging ministries, departments and agencies of the government of Ghana and other civil society organizations. 
  • Stakeholder engagements and events planning. 

LANGUAGES

  • Fluency in written and spoken English (essential) 
  • Skills in at least one Ghanaian language is desirable.

  • High order analytical and critical thinking skills, including the ability to formulate recommendations and advise PIs in tackling challenging situations. 
  • Leadership qualities, including the ability to make sound judgement, meet challenges constructively and creatively. 
  • Ability to quickly adapt to change and to operate in a fast-paced environment. 

 

REMUNERATION 

Remuneration will be attractive and will commensurate with experience.
