This chapter examines the role of financial technology (FinTech) in transforming the delivery of banking and financial services and its potential in promoting financial inclusion in Africa. The chapter discusses the main types of FinTech which include mobile money, mobile banking, crowdfunding, and blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies and their market developments in Africa.

The Institute of Statistical Social and Economic Research (ISSER) is set to launch the 31st edition of its flagship report on the economy of Ghana, the State of the Ghanaian Economy Report (SGER) 2021.

The SGER is an expert analysis of the performance of the economy of Ghana in a given year, with recommendations to provide guidance toward improved performance. It is based on real data from the various economic sectors, analysed by qualified and experienced economic experts.

ISSER Director, Prof. Peter Quartey paid a working visit to the Centre for Development Research (ZEF) at the University of Bonn, Germany.  The visit was aimed at deepening relations with ZEF -- a longstanding partner under ISSER’s Ph.D. in Development Studies programme -- and other partners of ISSER based at the University of Bonn.

The Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) organised a Research Methodology and Report Writing Short Course for staff of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD). The two-week course, which was held from August 8 - 19, 2022 at ISSER, contributes to building on the success of the 2022 Short Courses Programme, which saw the training of scores of participants from Ghana and Sierra Leone in four separate courses.
