ISSER is one of Ghana’s leading research institutions, dedicated to generating high-quality evidence and policy-relevant knowledge to support national development.
The Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) is a semi-autonomous research institute within the College of Humanities at the University of Ghana. Established in 1962 and reorganised in 1969, ISSER has more than six decades of experience generating evidence and knowledge to support development in Ghana and Africa.
ISSER brings together a multidisciplinary community of more than 30 researchers working across economics and the social sciences. Its research addresses critical development challenges across themes such as economic and agricultural transformation, digitalisation, climate change, human capital, health, governance, development financing, gender, trade and urbanisation.
Through rigorous research, training, policy engagement and strategic partnerships, ISSER connects research, policy and practice to inform better decisions and contribute to meaningful development outcomes.
At the heart of ISSER’s work is a commitment to Knowledge for Development—generating credible evidence and building capacity to contribute to inclusive and sustainable development in Ghana, across Africa and beyond.
To create an enabling environment that makes the University of Ghana increasingly relevant to national and global development through cutting-edge research and quality teaching and learning.
To be recognized globally for promoting knowledge for development through authoritative policy research, training and advocacy.
