The Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) at the University of Ghana and UC Berkeley, USA, are undertaking a research project in the Western and Western North Regions and thus invite applications from suitably qualified applicants who are goal-oriented and results-driven to apply for the position of Research Assistant.
Duration of Assignment: Six (6) months. Renewable for another six months based on satisfactory performance.
Time Schedule: Full-time Remuneration: Competitive Package Duty Post: ISSER, University of Ghana.
Reporting to: The Principal Investigator, and the Project Coordinator
JOB SUMMARY
The aforementioned institutions are undertaking a joint research project about the health aspects of irresponsible artisanal and small-scale gold mining across low-income communities in Ghana's Western and Western North Regions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The specific duties and responsibilities are as follows:
- Liaise between Principal Investigator and research team in the design of training modules
- Organize training for field officers in data collection
- Monitor project implementation to ensure quality control and adherence to the research specifications
- Facilitate the successful implementation of the research projects
- Sort, clean, analyze and report on findings from the research projects
- Draft reports, policy briefs and other reports for publication
- Perform any statistical assignment that may be assigned
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
- A minimum of a first degree from an accredited tertiary institution in any of the following: Economics, Statistics, Finance, Data Science, Public Policy, Marketing, and related fields.
- Must have at least two years’ work experience
COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS
- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Suit
- Experienced in the use of Computer Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI) in data collection
- Experienced in survey work, research work, and data analysis using STATA
- Familiarity with and interest in the artisanal and small-scale gold mining industry.
- Expertise in CAPI programming will be an advantage
