Rich Ghanaian culture on display at the conference
The Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) is known for organising successful and crowd-drawing events. This reputation was taken a notch higher recently with the 8th annual conference of the Regional Network of Agricultural Research Institutes (ReNAPRI) which was co-organised and hosted by ISSER.
Held from 17th to 19 November 2021 at the Institute’s Conference Facility, the conference – which took a hybrid mode of attendance, with both in-person and virtual audience – brought together agricultural policy research institutes based in East, Central, South and West Africa, and key stakeholders to dialogue on the theme: “Transform: Towards Sustainable and Resilient Food Systems in Africa.”
Delivering closing remarks at the end of a successful conference, Executive Director of the ReNAPRI Secretariat, Dr Nalishebo Meebelo commended ISSER for their commitment and team spirit in co-organising and coordinating the 8th annual conference.
“With you, we have raised the bar of ReNAPRI conference,” she said.
She also thanked the University of Ghana, ReNAPRI member institutes and supporting partners, speakers and participants for their immense contributions towards the success of the conference.
ISSER Director Prof. Peter Quartey remarked: “It’s been an exciting experience hosting the 8th edition of this important annual conference. I am pleased ISSER was able to deliver on our promise to give participants an enjoyable conferencing experience mixed with a taste of Ghana.”
Organized under the hashtag #Renapri2021, the conference featured keynote presentations, panel discussions and interactive Q&A sessions, with key speakers including Prof. Nana Aba Appiah Amfo, Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana; Prof. Daniel Frimpong Ofori, Provost of College of Humanities, University of Ghana; Honourable Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Minister of Food and Agriculture, Ghana ([MoFA], represented by Mr Seth Akoto, Director of Crop Services); and Prof. Peter Quartey, Director of ISSER,
Others were: Dr. Miltone Ayieko, Chairperson, ReNAPRI Board of Director; Ms. Alexious Butler, Acting Deputy Assistant Administrator, USAID Bureau for Resilience and Food Security (USAID/ RFS); Dr. Agnes Kalibata, President, Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA); Amb. Josefa Sacko, Commissioner, African Rural Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Blue Economy and Sustainable Environment; and Alain Sy Traore, Director of Agriculture and Rural Development, ECOWAS.
The ReNAPRI stakeholders conference has been held every year since 2014, hosted each year by alternate member institutes who organize and coordinate the conference with the able support of the Lusaka-based ReNAPRI Secretariat.
