Out now: Ghana Social Development Outlook 2024

The Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) has released the Ghana Social Development Outlook (GSDO) 2024. Produced every two years since 2012, the GSDO provides accessible, evidence-based analysis of Ghana’s social development progress and challenges.

The 2024 edition assesses developments over the past two years across ten chapters: Education, Health, Water and Sanitation, Housing, Employment, Energy, Environment, Gander, Governance, and Population. The previous edition, GSDO 2022, was launched in June 2023.

As in earlier editions, a set of policy briefs -- each summarising a chapter -- was also announced. The first is now available on the ISSER website, with more to follow.

The Director of ISSER, Prof. Peter Quartey, led the official launch with support from distinguished guests including; Mrs. Mary Addah, Executive Director of the Ghana Integrity Initiative, who chaired the event; Prof. Gordon Awandare, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Academic and Student Affairs; University of Ghana (UG); Prof. Joseph Awetori Yaro, Provost of the College of Humanities (UG); Emeritus Prof. Ernest Aryeetey; Prof. Joseph Osafo Adu, Head of the Department of Psychology; and Dr. Emmanuel Akwetey, Executive Director of IDEG, who served as discussant.

The report was launched on Thursday, 11 July 2025, at the ISSER Conference Facility, University of Ghana.

Printed copies of the GSDO 2024 are available for purchase at ISSER. For enquiries on how to procure the report, please contact Mr. Emmanuel Hanson on 020 906 4805. For media interviews on any of the topics covered, kindly contact Vicentia Quartey on 0244 766 492.
