Tawiah Agyarko-Kwarteng is a development practitioner with over 20 years of experience across the private, public and non-profit sectors. Her work focuses on sustainable development, stakeholder engagement, and strategic program management, with proven track record of delivering impactful solutions in sustainable agriculture, women’s empowerment and education.
She is currently a PhD candidate at the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), University of Ghana with research focusing on sustainability transitions in agri-food systems and the governance of tropical commodities. Tawiah holds a Master of Public Administration in International Development (MPA/ID) from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and a BSc. in Planning (Development Policy) from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi, Ghana.
Tawiah currently serves as the Technical Manager at the Côte d’Ivoire–Ghana Cocoa Initiative (CIGCI), where she plays a key role in steering strategic planning, high-level stakeholder engagement, and resource mobilization to advance the transformation of the cocoa sector.
Prior to this role, she worked with The Hershey Company, a global confectionary leader, as West Africa Sustainable Sourcing Representative. In this capacity, she was pivotal to the development, roll out and consolidation of the company’s cocoa sustainability strategy, and led innovative programs such as CocoaLink, an agri-tech advisory service for cocoa farmers, and ViVi, a school-based nutrition program for children. She has also worked with U.S.-based non-profits, Women Changemakers for Education and World Education, Inc., supporting them to launch and scale education, health and rural development initiatives across West Africa.
Tawiah is Chair of the Board of Directors for Amplio Ghana, a social impact organization using innovative technology to overcome the knowledge gap for low-literate populations. She also serves as an Advisory Board member for the Women in Cocoa and Chocolate (WINCC) network, and for Women Changemakers for Education.
