The Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Fred Mawunyo Dzanku as Head of its Economics Division.
An Associate Professor of Agricultural and Development Economics at the University of Ghana, Prof. Dzanku brings a strong record of research leadership, policy engagement, and international research collaboration. As Head, he will provide strategic direction for the Division’s research, policy analysis, and public engagement, including two of ISSER’s flagship policy platforms: the State of the Ghanaian Economy Report (SGER) and Post-Budget Review Forum.
Prof. Dzanku is an applied development economist whose research spans agricultural and structural transformation, markets and food systems, household welfare, and poverty reduction in Africa. His work combines randomised controlled trials, quasi-experimental approaches, and large-scale household and spatial data to generate rigorous evidence on critical development challenges.
He has extensive experience at the research–policy interface, working with international research and development partners to translate evidence into policy insights and contribute to African and global development debates. He holds a PhD in Agricultural and Food Economics from the University of Reading and has published widely in leading international journals.
He succeeds Prof. Ama Pokuaa Fenny, who has completed one term as Head of the Division. ISSER expresses its sincere appreciation to Prof. Fenny for her dedicated service, leadership, and contributions to the Division and the Institute, and wishes her continued success in her academic and professional endeavours.
ISSER congratulates Prof. Dzanku and looks forward to the strategic vision, scholarly leadership, and policy engagement he brings to the role.
