The Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), University of Ghana, welcomes Mr Kwasi Odame, FCA, as its new Principal Accountant.

Mr Odame brings to ISSER more than 25 years of experience in financial management, accounting, budgeting, audit coordination, financial systems implementation and institutional leadership. In his new role, he will provide leadership in the Institute’s financial reporting, budgeting, donor-funded project management, compliance, internal controls and overall financial administration.

A Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants, Ghana (FCA), Mr Odame combines extensive finance and accounting expertise with a strong background in information technology and systems transformation. His experience includes leading financial planning and budgeting processes, managing payroll and treasury functions, coordinating audit and regulatory reporting, and supporting the modernisation of financial management systems.

Prior to his appointment at ISSER, Mr Odame held several senior positions at the University of Ghana, including Deputy Director of Finance, Acting Director of Finance and Head of the Interim Finance Management Team. He also served as Head of the ITS User Coordination Office (Finance Module), where he played a leading role in the implementation of the University’s Integrated Tertiary Software (ITS) Finance Module.

His professional experience extends beyond the University of Ghana, having worked with organisations including Valley View University, VisionFund Ghana, the Volta River Authority, and the Controller and Accountant General’s Department. He has also served in board and advisory capacities, bringing a broad perspective on financial governance, accountability and organisational efficiency.

Commenting on the appointment, the Director of ISSER, Prof. Robert Darko Osei, said, “Mr Odame’s depth of experience in financial leadership, systems transformation and regulatory compliance makes him an outstanding addition to our team. We are confident that his leadership will further strengthen our financial governance and stewardship as ISSER continues to advance its research and development mandate.”

Mr Odame succeeds Mr Karimu Gbene Suglo, who served ISSER from 2 July 2022 to 31 July 2026. The Institute expresses its sincere appreciation to Mr Suglo for his dedicated service and valuable contribution to ISSER during his four-year tenure. ISSER also congratulates him on his appointment as Deputy Director of Finance, University of Ghana, and wishes him every success in his new role.

ISSER warmly welcomes Mr Odame to the Institute and looks forward to benefiting from his wealth of experience and expertise as the Institute continues to strengthen its financial systems, accountability and institutional capacity in support of its research and development mandate.
