PhD Student

Bernice Kanyoke is currently pursuing her PhD in Development Studies at the Institute of Statistical, Social
and Economic Research (ISSER), where her academic work focuses on the intersection of environmental
issues and political economy. Her doctoral dissertation explores how nature-based solutions can be
effectively integrated into governance and planning frameworks to support climate change adaptation.
Alongside her academic journey, Bernice serves as a Regional Director at the Department of Parks and
Gardens, a role that reflects her commitment to environmental management and sustainable
development.
Her educational background is firmly rooted in the University of Ghana, where she earned a Bachelor of
Arts degree in Sociology, Geography, and Resource Management, followed by a Master of Arts in
Development Studies. Her master’s thesis examined the impact of climate change on expanding urban
areas, using the La Dade-Kotopon Municipality as a case study. Prior to embarking on her doctoral studies,
Bernice gained professional experience as a development officer in landscape management at the
Department of Parks and Gardens.
