Strengthening research communication capacity through continuous professional development

ISSER communications staff participated in a two-day training workshop aimed at enhancing skills and strengthening collaboration among communication officers from the University of Ghana’s Public Affairs Directorate (PAD) and those from various units across the University. Organized by PAD, the workshop was led by seasoned faculty from the Department of Communication Studies, offering participants practical insights and advanced writing and editing techniques tailored for academic and research contexts.

"This training is part of our broader strategy to equip our communication teams with the necessary tools to effectively convey the University’s message and research outputs to the public. It aligns with our commitment to maintaining high standards in both our internal and external communications,” Dr. Elizier Ameyaw-Buronyah, Director of Public Affairs said.

Facilitators, Prof. Audrey Gadzekpo, Mr. Kofi Akpabli and Dr. Sarah Quarcoo Akrofi, delivered engaging presentations that provided participants with valuable expertise and practical tools.

Vicentia Quartey, Communications and Publications Officer at ISSER, expressed her satisfaction with the workshop, noting that it not only sharpened communication skills but also reinforced collaboration and mutual support among different units within the University.

In delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of her colleagues, Vicentia Quartey commended the Department of Communication Studies for the insightful training and praised the PAD for their initiative in prioritizing continuous professional development.

“We are confident that the skills we have acquired will translate into more effective communication strategies, ultimately advancing the mission of the University of Ghana,” she added.
