ISSER engages journalists, key stakeholders on Ghana’s 2024 Budget Statement

Prof. Quartey presents the 2024 budget review. With him on the podium are the heads divisions (Prof. Isaac Osei Akoto, Economics Division; Prof. Charles Ackah, Statistics and Survey Division and Dr. Martha Awo, Social Division) and Dr. Andrew Agyei-Holmes, Senior Research Fellow, Economics Division.

The Institute of Statistical Social and Economic Research (ISSER) hosted journalists and other key stakeholders for a review of the 2024 Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the Government. The forum, strategically timed after the Minister of Finance’s budget presentation to Ghana’s parliament, provided a valuable platform for the Institute to contribute to ongoing debate on the 2024 budget.  It aimed to offer evidence-backed recommendations for achieving robust fiscal, social, and economic outcomes.

During the event, Director Prof. Peter Quartey presented the ISSER 2024 Budget Review. This comprehensive review highlighted the domestic performance across all sectors of the economy and outlined targets for 2024. The presentation concluded with evidence-based recommendations to enhance fiscal responsibility and promote positive social and economic outcomes. Subsequently, participants engaged in open and free interactions, enabling a deeper understanding of the budget and broader economic issues.

Participants had ample opportunity to interact with the presenter and members of the Economics Division of ISSER which spearheads the post budget review forum.

ISSER's post-budget review forums are systematically organized in the aftermath of the annual budget and mid-year budget presentations to the Parliament of Ghana. These forums serve as an important platform for the Institute to provide an objective and independent analysis of the government's account of national fiscal performance. Furthermore, they play a pivotal role in educating the public and offering well-informed recommendations. With a primary audience of media representatives, these forums ensure wide coverage of discussion outcomes for the benefit of the broader public.

The 2024 budget review, conducted on November 23, 2023, builds on the successes of the 2023 mid-year budget review and previous budget review forums organized by ISSER.
