Trade is a central factor in shaping global, regional, and local development. Increased trade, empowered by the growth of Global Value Chains (GVCs), has boosted productivity and incomes in many countries. However, if not fairly regulated, trade might generate increases in inequality and negative impacts on working conditions in developing countries and compromise the environment. The main objective of this project is to identify new opportunities to foster positive sustainability impacts of trade supported by improved trade policy at national, EU and global level, including WTO modernization, and increased coherence across agricultural, energy, climate, environmental and nutritional policies. This project involves a consortium of research institutions including ISSER and is supported by the European Commission’s European Research Executive Agency (REA).
