PhD Student

My name is Tabitha Avoga, a Kenyan PhD student at the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER) at the University of Ghana. My research explores gender relations, institutional dynamics and how multiple livelihood stressors shape climate change adaptation among smallholder farmers. Focusing on community-based groups around Lake Victoria ecosystem, my research examines how adaptive capacity among smallholder farmers emerges from the interaction between daily livelihood challenges such as health burden and market variability, social institutions and gender relations, beyond simplified assumptions about community-based adaptation. I draw from Social-Ecological Systems (SES) and institutional analysis to strengthen theoretical foundations of my work, aiming to contribute to inclusive climate adaptation and development practices in sub-Saharan Africa.
