The Short Courses Programme offers hands-on training that learners can apply to improve their work.

Preparations are underway geared at making the 2023 edition of the ISSER Short Courses Programme an enriching experience for participants. Four courses that leverage ISSER’s research expertise and intellectual resources will be delivered, starting with the Executive Leadership Programme in Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) for Public and Private Sectors (April 17 – April 28). This will be followed by Research Methodology and Report Writing (May 1 – May 12), and Data Management and Analysis (August 14 – August 25), concluding with Project Cycle Management (August 28 – September 8).

A key component of the Institute’s capacity-building efforts, the annual training programme focuses on strengthening the skills of public and private sector executives -- including policymakers, analysts, programme implementers, consultants, development practitioners, researchers -- and students through targeted, demand-driven two-week professional courses. The practical training incorporates the latest information and learners’ and facilitators’ lived experiences, ensuring learners leave with the toolkit of knowledge and skills needed to succeed in their careers.

Career-oriented, practice-based learning

IMGSights from M&E 2022: a participatory approach ensures learners’ voices are heard

Alhaj Abdulai Salifu, Director, Policy Planning, Research, Monitoring, and Evaluation (PPRME), at the National Identification Authority, a three-time participant says: “ISSER Short Courses are unique, career-oriented, practice-based learning that affords professional growth, and return on investment. My training in Project Cycle Management in 2009 prepared and equipped me for professional excellence in achieving Certifications such as Project Management Professional (PMP®), Scrum Master Certified (SMC®), and Projects in Controlled Environments (PRINCE2®) Practitioner.”

“Additional training in Executive Leadership Programme in Monitoring and Evaluation for Public and Private Sectors, and Data Management and Analysis taken in 2022 has contributed a lot to realizing my career and professional objectives. I am more accomplished now.”

Mrs. Mary Nana Aba Mensah, a Ph.D. student at ISSER is another satisfied participant from last year. She recollects the impactful experience: “The programme had a real impact on me, in that it equipped me with valuable and relevant research knowledge and skills while opening up networking opportunities with co-participants and people at ISSER.”
