Dr. Nana Amma Asante-Poku

Nana Amma Asante-Poku holds a PhD in Economics from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Economics from the University of Ghana and a BA in Economics with Geography and Resource Development, also from the University of Ghana. She is a Research Fellow at the Institute of Statistical, Social and Economic Research (ISSER), University of Ghana. 

Her research focuses on gender and development, agricultural value chains, the political economy of agriculture, industrial and education policy. She is particularly interested in gendered employment and labour-market transitions, women’s economic participation, value-chain governance, price formation, and the role of institutions, interests and policy ideas in shaping development outcomes.

Dr Asante-Poku teaches graduate courses in development theories and gender and development at ISSER. She has contributed to national and international research initiatives funded by the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Mastercard Foundation, International Growth Centre (IGC), Gates Foundation, and UNFPA Ghana. Her publications have appeared in Competition and Change, Canadian Journal of Development Studies and Applied Research in Quality of Life.
